Grandmaster John Byrne has incorporated many arts into one inclusive martial arts program.  Tae Kwon Do is used for defense when someone is an arm or leg away while Judo and Jujitsu are used for defense when someone gets a little closer.  The Chinese arts are the hard and soft way of the technique.

Our school is a nationally recognized non-contact school based upon the premise that power is useless without control. The students do not make contact during sparring practice.  Water bags and boards are provided to determine that the student is executing the technique with enough focus and power to defend him/herself.

Uniforms, sparring gear, and belts are available for purchase.

Grandmaster John Byrne's Motto is: Each individual has his/her own unique fingerprint. The student must learn to use his/her particular physical, mental and emotional qualities.  Only in this way can students better serve others as well as themselves.

Instruction is based upon a researched curriculum that includes helping students grow socially, emotionally as well as physically with a strong emphasis placed on cooperation and leadership skills.  Instructors make adaptations for individual learning styles and abilities.  Quality instruction is provided through our professionally trained and nationally certified instructors.  For our visual learners, a student manual, diskette, and video are available.

A class involves warm-up and stretching followed by individual and group instruction. The class ends with a cool down.

Grandmaster John Byrne, who is a 9th degree black belt, also holds degrees in seven different martial arts.  He has achieved grand champion status in Karate, Tae Kwon Do, and Judo.  Over the years he has earned many awards including Grandmaster of the Year, Grandmaster Instructor of the Year, and Life Achievement Award.  He is proudest of The School of the Year award.

Grandmaster Byrne wishes to express his deepest gratitude to Soke Frank Sanchez, Executive Director of World Head of Family Sokeship Council, for his inspiration in the development of this web site.

Grandmaster Byrne began his training at the age of six in his hometown of Philadelphia and earned his first black belt at age 15.  He, and his identical twin brother, Grandmaster Edward Byrne, 10th degree black belt, practiced the martial arts together.  Grandmaster Byrne and his brother were inseparable and they earned many world records in board breaking competitions across the country.

After a stint in the United States Air Force, Grandmaster John Byrne began teaching martial arts at the Miller Park YMCA in 1968.  His curriculum vitae includes articles and brochures on the art of self-defense and property protection. Many of the publications were printed in various martial arts magazines.  When Grandmaster Edward Byrne died in 1989, Grandmaster John Byrne continued their goal to operate the best martial arts school in the Midlands.
